Terms of use.

Versions and availability

FirstLogbook is currently available through Google Play internal testing for invited, approved Google accounts. There is no public production release yet. Test features and availability can change as the app is developed. Check the app and this site's user guide for the features available to you. Internal testing does not remove any rights you have under applicable consumer law.

Recording and safe use

Complete setup, review prompts and interact with the app only while parked. Follow road rules and do not let a notification distract you from driving. You control Android permissions, vehicle pairing and automatic-recording settings. Automatic starts require the relevant permissions and companion-device approval; device restrictions and connection delivery can affect recording.

Business or Private purpose prompts can be sent to compatible Android Auto hosts in the current internal test. The vehicle and host control whether a prompt and its actions appear. This does not guarantee support for every car, vehicle sensor access or uninterrupted recording. Parking reminders appear on the phone. You can review unanswered purpose prompts later.

Your records and their accuracy

GPS distances are estimates. Manually entered dashboard readings are separate observations, and any supported allocation between readings depends on complete, valid records. Review missing data, interruptions, classifications, business purposes, notes and distance sources before relying on a record. Enter accurate information and do not fabricate journeys or measurements.

Tax, accounting and claim decisions

FirstLogbook is a tool for recording and organising journeys. It does not provide tax or accounting advice or determine whether a journey is deductible, whether you qualify for a deduction, the amount you can claim or how to prepare your tax return. It does not decide or guarantee that your accountant or any tax authority will accept your records or approve a claim or a particular claim amount. It makes no ATO approval, certification or compliance claim.

You are responsible for checking the requirements that apply to your circumstances, reviewing your records, retaining supporting evidence and obtaining independent advice from a qualified professional when needed.

Subject to the consumer rights below and to the extent permitted by applicable law, FirstLogbook is not responsible for an accountant’s or tax authority’s independent decisions about your records, the rejection of a claim or differences between the tax amount you claim and the amount accepted. This boundary concerns those third-party accounting and tax decisions; it does not exclude obligations concerning the app’s performance or responsibility and remedies for an app failure that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Allowance, subscriptions and Google Play

The current internal test includes a free allowance of 20 qualifying completed journeys per installation and FirstLogbook Pro subscription options. The app shows allowance and subscription status in Settings. Available plans, current local prices, billing periods and purchase conditions are shown in Google Play before you confirm a purchase. Paid billing begins with your purchase as shown in the Google Play confirmation; unused free journeys do not delay billing.

Manage or cancel subscriptions through Google Play using the purchasing Google account. Review the renewal details shown there. Uninstalling the app, clearing its data or deleting its installation identity does not cancel a subscription. Cancellation and refunds are separate processes; check Google Play for the subscription's end date and refund options.

Use the app's purchase restoration option with the purchasing Google account when needed. Paid access depends on a verified entitlement, and restoration or verification may need a network connection. Restoring a purchase does not itself restore journey records. Visit Help & support and the user guide for the current workflow.

Your data, backups and exports

Your journey records remain yours. The app keeps records locally on your phone. Optional Google Drive backup requires you to choose an account and enable uploads; connecting alone uploads nothing. Creating new Drive backups requires an active subscription. Existing versions can still be read, restored, exported or deleted after expiry, subject to Google authorisation.

Keep independent copies of important records. Clearing app data or uninstalling can delete local records. Protect exports that contain precise locations, and keep the password for an encrypted manual backup: it cannot be recovered if lost. You choose where to save or share your files. Privacy & data explains location lookup, installation identity, purchase records, backup services and website request information.

Using the website

The website provides product information and setup guidance. Its phone and car displays use illustrative sample data, and its classification demo does not record a journey or send demo data to a server. Links to Google Play and other services take you to services with their own terms and privacy information. Do not misuse the app or website, attempt unauthorised access or interfere with other users' records or services.

Your consumer rights

Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or changes consumer guarantees or other rights that cannot lawfully be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law or other applicable law. Where consumer guarantees apply and are not met, you may be entitled to a remedy, such as repair, replacement, refund or cancellation, depending on the circumstances. Internal-test status and Google Play's purchase processes do not remove those rights.

See the ACCC's information on consumer rights and guarantees and repairs, replacements, refunds and cancellations.
